150th Anniversary Celebrations

Monday – The pupils began the week on the school’s official anniversary by having a ‘Victorian Day’ all pupils and staff dressed as Victorians and found out what the day may have been like for pupils 150 years ago. Children sat in rows and had lessons of reading, writing and arithmetic. They all wrote in chalk or used nibs dipped in ink (which was rather messy!) In the afternoon there were ‘object’ lessons or needlework for the girls and woodwork for the boys.

Tuesday – To celebrate the 150th Anniversary, Mr Cooper organised a Fun Run for children to run laps of 150 metres. All children ran as many laps as they possibly could, encouraging their friends and having fun along the way!

Wednesday – Cooking and Community. The children began by baking lots of treats for the upcoming Afternoon Tea. Class One baked scones, whilst Class Two created Victorian goodies such as ginger bread men and cheese straws.

Thursday – The whole school boarded the bus to Milton Keynes Museum, to learn more about the life of the Victorians and what it would be like to be a child 150 years ago.  A huge thank you to the PTFA for funding this trip.

Monday 4th September – School Dinners

We have been advised by Eden Interserve who provide the school dinners the the cost of school dinners will increase to £2.05 this term. Children in Years 1, 2 and Foundation will still receive a free school meal under the universal school meal scheme.

Wednesday 28th June – Sports Day

Unfortunately we have decided to postpone today’s Sports Day. The ground is very wet and slippery and we do not feel this will make for an enjoyable and safe sports day. We plan to try again tomorrow on our reserve Sports Day  at the same time, the forecast is more positive and it will give time for the Rec to dry out hopefully!  We apologise for any inconvenience and hope you can join us for Sports Day tomorrow – Thursday 29th June.

Monday 19th June – Heatwave Advice

We have been advised that temperature tomorrow may reach ‘heatwave’ levels. Please ensure that your child has a water bottle, hat and sunscreen with them We will take necessary precautions throughout the day to ensure the children remain as cool as possible in these conditions.

Class 2 – Evacuation to Holdenby House

The class 2 trip to Holdenby House was a huge success, The ‘evacuees’ paced their gas masks, id cards and ration books and waved goodbye to their families.     On arriving at Holdenby house the children were introduced to the people who would help them on their journey.  Everyone had their ID cards checked.    Next, we were shown what to do when we heard the air raid siren;     We moved into the kitchen to learn about our rations and wartime cooking, making Woolton Pie and Mock Apricot Tarts.           We learnt how to make-do-and-mend and first aid (a stretcher made from an overcoat)    Lunch! Finally, we joined in with a sing a long to raise our spirits before we left

Husborne Crawley Village Fete

A huge thank you to all that attended the village fete, we received this email from the organiser;

To all pupils, staff and parents,

Firstly I would like to say a huge thank you to all those who danced and sang at the Fete on Saturday, it was obvious that you had all worked and practiced extremely hard and you should be very proud of the result. It was lovely to see the youngest pupils dancing as well as the older children dancing the very complicated Maypole dances.
Thank you also to those children that decorated cupcakes, they were all beautiful and it was very difficult to pick a winner!
Thank you to all the staff and parents who worked so hard to prepare the children for their performances you too should be very proud of your achievements.
Finally thank you to all of you who attended the Fete, I hope you enjoyed the afternoon and we look forward to seeing you all again next year
With very best wishes to all,
Pip Buist
